Design is about asking larger questions in order to define and implement a better version of life than it is presently. It is about aesthetics as much as it is about the underlying methods. Unlike pure science or math, there is no such thing as a problem and a solution, rather possible bizzaro worlds, alternative versions of the future. Design involves creative planning coupled with the ability to carry it through all difficult stages. From investigation, to vision, to implementation, back again in circles untill it reaches near completion.
Our present state is a precarious one, one that is inundated with constant change. In light of this volatile situation it is crucial to rise above the uncertainty and become the antithesis of disorder and uncertainty. Technology will change, people will adapt, the rules will be rewritten time and time again, so the solution becomes one of adaptation. As a designer i want to be actively involved in not only the particulars of a visual solution, such as the placement or color of a particular image within a layout. I aim to continue gathering the skills neccesary for correctly dealing with the larger situation.
As a designer I live in a present state and that present state informs. The future never arrives, we are always now, here, able to loath or bask in our current situation. Able to act, able to dream and to remember. It is the ability to stay even minded to avoid regret and worry, to accept the present but to act as a force for positive change of the environment all at once.
